You guessed it—squares A and B are the exact same shade of gray! But no matter how hard you try, they look different when you look at the whole picture and see the “shadow” falling across it.

The brain gets used to these different light conditions and allows for them. So, you will see a green field as a green field,both in the daytime and at night—even though the actual colors you see are different.
